Media Network is what is used to connect point A to point B. Most people think that media such as cables, but the air is the medium communication for wireless devices.
I will explain several types of media – cable coaxial cable, unshielded twisted pair cable fiber optic, and wireless media (air).
Coaxial cable
Coaxial cable, also called coaxial cable, using a cable. There is a copper wire in the middle of the cable used for data transmission. Around this is not an insulator that prevents the copper wire mesh layer touchscreen. If the base layer copper shield grounded, the signal is scrambled or could have an electrical short circuit, preventing and the insulator. The braided metal shield is to keep outside interference to a minimum. Interference or noise, which produce other equipment such as lamps, motors or other electrical device can interfere with the signal in the copper core. The shield makes noise This is the cable, and it is based. The shield is connected to a ground when the cable is connected so that electrical noise is over.
Electricity flow outside the copper wire, so that the thickness of the wire makes a difference. You can send as much electricity through a thin wire or otherwise heat up and catch fire or melt. The more information you provide, more electricity is sent through the cable. These cables have a very low voltage, so you will not catch fire if you use evil, but could not obtain data tranmitted correctly if you use the wrong cable. For example, you might have a cable RG-58 which is 185 meters long, but if longer, the starting signal will weaken and unreadable by the computer or device you want to communicate.
Thin Ethernet or RG-58 has a distance limitation of 185 meters.
Thick Ethernet, or RG-8 or RG-11 has a distance limitation 500 meters.
ARCNet or RG-62 has a distance limitation variable.
UTP Cable
Unshielded twisted pairs UTP means. These cables are pairs of copper cables unshielded. Each pair is twisted son to avoid any interference or meddling. Since it son is more into the cable, the electrical signal cable could interfere with the signal from another thread. Thus, each pair is twisted, forming a kind force field around the couple to reduce interference. The more twists per inch in the wire, protection against interference over it, and is therefore better quality.
UTP cables are marked with a category, or a cat. UTP cables have a distance limitation of 100 meters when sending data of binary data (not analog, like the telephone).
CAT 1 – their son's telephone economic base. Use 2 pairs of son.
CAT 2 – also for phones and alarm systems. Use 2 pairs of son.
CAT 3 – most high quality, and you can send the data in it – up to 16 megabits per second (Mbps). Uses 4 pairs son. Of these, only 2 pairs are used (4 son).
CAT 4 to 20 Mbps, 4 pairs.
CAT 5 up to 100 Mbps, 4 pairs, higher quality (more turns per inch).
CAT 6 to 1 Gbps (gigabits per second), 4 pairs of very high quality with several more laps per inch. Also pairs are twisted around each other.
Fiber Optic Cable
Fiber optic cables use light, so near elimination of interference. The electrical signals and magnetism not interefere with the light signals within an fiber optic cable. Signal light is produced either by laser or light emitting diodes (LEDs). A laser is more powerful and more expensive, so it is used for Long distance cables, while the LEDs are used for shorter distances.
There are two types of fibers – single mode and multi-mode. The singlemode fiber has a diameter of multimode fiber. There is so little is actually more expensive to manufacture than multimode fiber. Around the fiber is coated. The coating reflects light along the fiber. With a fiber thinner, less space for light to bounce around and, therefore, can go a longer distance Long before the light fades and the signal is too weak. As a single-mode fiber is more expensive and can travel long distances, is commonly used in WAN (Wide Area Networks), while the multiplayer mode is commonly used in LAN (Local Area Networks).
Wireless
Like it seems, do not use cables wireless network, using radio frequencies. Wireless standards 802.11a are 3 large, 802.11b, 802.11g. 802.11 is the standard IEEE for wireless communications.
802.11a uses the 5 GHz frequency to communicate. Power supply to 54Mbps, which is fast for radio, but has a short distance of 150 feet.
802.11b uses the 2.4GHz frequency to communicate. You can contact 11 Mbps, but a range of 300 feet. Because uses the 2.4GHz frequency, you may experience some problems when you use a cordless phone or microwave, because many products to use as frequency 2.4 GHz.
802.11g also uses the 2.4GHz frequency to communicate. You can communicate at 54 Mbps and has a range of 300 feet. Though using the same frequency as 802.11b, is faster because it sends and receives data in different ways.
802.11g is backwards-compatible with 802.11b. This means that if you have an 802.11b network, and a laptop with a wireless network card 802.11g, be able to connect to the network. The 802.11g only slow down to 11 Mbit / s (the limit of 802.11b).
