PC slow start due to USB devices?
I have a PC I built myself a few years ago (now used as a secondary PC) which has an ASUS P5WD2 Prem. Motherboard and an Intel Pentium D 830 CPU. All USB 2.0 ports. I have an HP Photosmart with card reader connected via USB and also a unit of 500 GB WD My Book external USB. When starting the PC and the other of these devices are connected the computer takes about 5 minutes to run because POST is the testing of external drives. What are the settings in the BIOS I have to change to get this fixed? Quickboot is enabled and paper or card reader is set as boot drive, one DVD and the primary hard drive.
Well, you certainly look to the right place, because the former spent POST. somewhat difficult to specify an area in the BIOS to change without seeing as everyone is different. However, two things that comes to mind: 1. Do you stick into the menu of your startup command? If so, you may be looking through boot your external drive. Try either disable or boot from USB devices, at least change a priority. 2. (No other thoughts here, which is not): My pc sometimes do after an accident, I think removing the power cord from the PC (compared to its turn right side), then re-insertion and helps to leave! although I personally believe that option1 is most likely.
