Acer is more or less a reputeable brand of laptop. It's based in Taiwan (like most other laptop makers) and they make they're own laptops, they don't farm out manufacturing to other manufacturers. Acer is also the third largest computer maker in the world, after HP and Dell.

They also own Gateway.

Quality is very good, but not ultra high, and this is shown in their prices. Their products are among the best deals as far as bang for the buck is concerned.

Reliability and support are pretty good as well. I wouldn't really worry about getting a notebook from them.

Most typical and cheap wireless routers work reliably to about 30 meters/120 feet. The range actually varies a lot depending on where the router is installed, and if it's an open area or full of walls and such.

Good brands are Linksys, D-Link, NetGear. If you're really concerned about range, consider buying one with replaceable antennas and just buy a larger aftermarket antenna. Get one with 802.11g and 802.11n support if possible. g and n routers usually have better range than 802.11b ones.

Good luck.
