Question by Mike the Rat Grappler: Can anyone help me compare these two Asus gaming laptops?
I’ve been trying to come to a decision between which of these two Asus gaming laptops I want to buy. They’re both refurbished, but from sellers that offer a warranty and claim the product to be as good as new. I would also have buyer protection, so I think I’ll be fairly safe.
I just don’t know which is better because I’ve never owned an Asus and don’t know much about them, but using common numerical sense it seems like the NEWER one has a SLOWER processor, so I’m a bit confused and hoping someone can me clear it up.
Here are the two laptops:

Sorry for all the length, it was just easier to copy the sales blurbs. Anyway what you should know: These are almost identical in price, I want to use them for gaming, and my biggest concern is temperature / reliability (I want my purchase to really last). I know nothing of overclocking or serious modding or upgrading or any of that, so I basically need to go for the one that will be the wisest buy based on what’s here already.
Thanks for any help. Anyone who knows a lot about this stuff would be appreciated, anyone who’s familiar with Asus and / or the processors and all that will REALLY come in handy. I’m basically looking for the closest thing I can get to a side-by side comparison by someone who knows what they’re talking about. Please, no comments about buying something else.
Thanks for any help, I’m really stuck!

I’m not a pro here, but:
G50:
memory: 4GB
processor: 2.0 GHz
graphics: 1GB*
G51:
memory: 4GB
processor: 2.26* GHz
graphics: 512MB
I’m not sure how much difference .26 GHz will make but I do know that half a gig down on graphics won’t be far too pleasant.
I’m also not sure about the P8400(51) vs P7350(50)…
but I can tell you that Asus is a good choice! My M50Vm is still rockin’ after a year and a half of multitasking and gaming abuse.
sorry to not be of any better help.

from looks of it…id go #1 , just so i can run the latest pc games out now, #2 also looks good
so yea i’d take #1 since im not the type of person that switches to a new laptop/rig every year lol
FYI, this is just what big name companies do. They put out “new” products with “dated” equipment and sell it for more because its….. you guessed it… “new.”
As for the equipment itself, it looks to be the main differences are 0.26 GHz between the two processors, which you will hardly notice, and the 512meg vs 1GB of Video RAM, which probably will not break you. Most high quality games require 128-256meg of dedicated memory for best performance so either/or, you’re in the clear. I think the better buy would be the cheaper one. You have two of almost the same system there. Read up on the G50vt issues and G51V issues. See which cause less problems. That should make your decision for you.
