Is it really worth upgrading to the Xbox 360 Elite? And the audio / video questions …?
I have a premium package with an HD DVD I bought for her, along with some expensive and high quality component cables which also bought. For sound I have a 1000 Monster digital optical cable from the console to my receiver. I run all this to a Samsung 32 "(I have a small room) 1080i HDTV. I realize that in a very small screen size makes no difference between 1080i and 1080p. What I really want to know is it worth spending $ 480 (less what I get for my current system, if I sell it) in the elite to use the connection HDMI? I read that HDMI vs. component quality varies according to its installation. Sometimes, HDMI is better, sometimes it's better components. But considering the size and my screen resolution, the noticeable difference in my HD DVDs if I use the HDMI connection instead of component cables for me?
Turning a smaller screen, probably will not see a big difference between component cables and HDMI cables. Also, if your TV does not even support for 1080p HDMI even worry. 1080i in component will be almost indistinguishable from 1080i over HDMI. In my opinion, the only thing that is really attractive for the elite is its 120GB hard drive. But you can buy separate, even if premium is the way to $ 180. All that really takes advantage of the HDMI connection on the 360 is the HD-DVD, but only really noticeable if you have a large (50 "or larger) screen.
