Technologically challenged? HDMI cable going from where to where???

I just bought a Samsung 32 "flat screen LCD HDTV today. It will not be in the store until Wednesday. A friend of mine is connected to me, but I'm sure you know exactly what you are doing and I sure do not. I'm going to buy an HDMI cable as it has been recommended in the shop, and online discussion forums. I have a DVD player and HD converter cable company. How Where does the HDMI cable to go …. Cable TV? Do not laugh, I have no idea! Help! Thank you.

The HDMI cable goes from the TV to the cable box, TV to the player DVD, neither, or both. But not the same cable, if both. What determines where you are going is to make the cable box and DVD player have such a connection or not. Also has high definition television have this connection (not all HDTVs, but I imagine most newer models do). Only players of high defintion (Blue Ray or HD-DVD) or upconverting DVD players have the connection. Only cable boxes have HD capable connection, but some cable boxes have only one high definition component video and stereo audio output (5 RCA cables go between the box and high-definition television definition). So make sure that the devices have HDMI or component cables if you need. The older non HD devices will connect to the connections are not HD capable, such as S-Video or composite video plus stereo audio cables.
