Video input format of the question?
Lately I've been looking to buy an HDTV. From now my options have been reduced to either the Samsung HP-T5064/T5054 or the Panasonic TH-50PX77U. I really like the Samsung a bit more, but the specifications page I noticed that the Samsung only VIDEO INPUT can accept formats up to 1080i, while the Panasonic can accept input up to 1080p. What does this really mean? You mean the Samsung can not accept the signal (from DVD players) in a 1080p format? And this really be important in the long term and affects me a lot to have that extra capacity 1080p input format? Thanks! PS. That TV would you recommend?
2. Why 1080p is theoretically better than 1080i 1080i, the former King of the Hill TV high definition actually has an identical 1.920 x1, 080 resolution but conveys the images in an interlaced format (the i in 1080i). In a tube base television, also known as a CRT, 1080i sources get "painted" on the screen sequentially: the odd lines of resolution appears on your screen first, followed by the even-numbered lines – all within 1 / 30 second. Progressive-scan formats such as 480p, 720p and 1080p convey all lines of resolution sequentially in a single step, making it a softer, cleaner image, especially with sports and other content movement. Unlike tubes, microdisplays (DLP, LCoS, and LCD rear projection) and other fixed-pixel TVs, including plasma and LCD flat panel, are inherently in nature progressive, so that when the input source interlaced, as 1080i is, convert it to progressive scan for display. Good luck!
