How do I connect my old school Dell for my new Samsung HDTV monitor to see my on TV?
I have an old school Dell Computer. Dell Dimension 4100 to be exact … It has a 120 GB hard drive extra in it, plus a high-speed Internet … So basically, what I am saying is that does the work. I have a Samsung HDTV less than a year old and has HDMI, S-Video, YP-whatver the smurf is output, basically everything you need …. I want my PC monitor to display on the TV. I know I need to get a video card, and a cable, I have a friend who is going to connect everything, I just want to know what they recommend. My computer is definitely not HD, my TV is definitely, and I want something that will optimize the potential between the two … I want to be able to watch movies from my computer on my TV … I also purchased at Best Buy or Fry's Electronics (I live in AZ), or on the Internet, depending on the answers received. This is the first time posting here, any help would be greatly appreciated. Thank you! Thomas
HDTV source material no connection to an HDTV not will provide a better pictues. In fact, it will be worse because your HDTV to show the quality difference more. Just connect your old computer to a monitor using halfway decent VGA. Any DVD player will look better on your HDTV than any team because the team uses software decoding instead of decoding hardware. Most DVD players are also progressive scan. If you insist on using your computer, and there are good reasons to use your computer as a DVR, get a better vid card can be sent to DVI-D and go to the DVI on the Samsung. Use your sound card outputs to a receiver or int & Direct TV. Conversion to HDMI not increase the quality of your picture, actually degrade (almost immeasureably, but in a laboratory it is possible to see a difference on a scope) thought that the conversion process. The only advantage of HDMI to DVI vs is currently one of several cable vs. cable. Later, as HDMI 1.3 becomes more accepted (its already ratified) you copy protection issues.
