Connecting HDTV and surround sound?
I have a 52 "Samsung flat screen TV (650 series) have just purchased. I have a Yamaha receiver that has no HDMI cable hook-up. My cable box has an HDMI hook-up. How can I use my receiver for surround sound, as it has no connection cable HDMI-up?
Connect the cable to your TV using the HDMI cable. Then, connect an optical cable (also called Toslink cable) TV or cable box to receiver Yamaha. I say "good" because one or both of these devices will likely have an "optical digital output jack. You can buy the cable monoprice.com for about $ 2 plus shipping cheap (search product ID 1419), or you can get one of the Best Buy for $ 30. I went with monoprice, or if you prefer a more mainstream site, go to Amazon.com. You only need a Toslink cable. Naturally, you should check your TV and / or cable box to ensure they have this drink, but is in almost all devices manufactured after 2000 or so.
