Updated, high-definition HD video, not the laptop to HDTV?
I have a new HP laptop with HDMI output. I have a New Samsung 52 "LCD flat panel Hi Def TV. I hooked the 2 up through the HDMI cable. I downloaded an episode of the series" LOST "is in Hi Def. When play through my TV with Windows Media Player, do not seem to be of high quality Def. Is there something I'm not doing right? Additional details The TV is already set in 1920 by 1080 and is still blurred, which actually looks better on the laptop screen! The file is definitely Hi def. Why now?
There is high definition and high definition is not … Things you find hanging around the internet is not going to compare broadcast quality high definition. I do not know if lost is still in 720/60p or if ABC has finally joined the rest of the world and gone to 1080/60i, but the resolution is not critical because the data rate is the same (I have Season 3 on Blu-Ray, but did not check the format and, in fact, the Blu-Ray, which should be better than the transmission anyway). Let's do some math here. Assuming you have another co-channel or two in the standard definition broadcast the episode of Lost is probably going out around 15 Mb / s in MPEG-2. Assuming that the usual number of sum are edited out, leaving a 40-45 minute show. That is 4.5-5.0 GB of data on the air. If I had to re-encode the original quality using a more efficient codec (like DivX, XviD, or AVC), which is now in 2,25-2.5 GB. If they cut the frame rate from 60i or 60p to 30p, is now more one gigabyte of data in that program. How did you get? That additional savings in size are paid in a general loss of quality … and that's assuming envoys performed on at least 1280×720/30p. The difference between the TV and the laptop is probably based on viewing distance … the same is going to look better if the distortions are too small to be obvious. In the same effective size picture, your TV and laptop screens should be more or less the same, but the chances are 52 "TV is going to be bigger.
