Search engine optimization can seem like a very daunting task to most people. However, it doesn't have to be as
difficult and hard as some SEO experts make it out to be.
If you can learn what the basic rules are and what the search engines are looking for,
you can easily and quickly climb your way to the top of the rankings. Most people seem to be the most scared
that they will unknowingly do something wrong and end up banned from Google. However, if you use ethical
techniques, you should have no problem.
The first thing you need to consider is that Google, Yahoo, and any search engine you are trying to get rankings
on will want to see a customer friendly webpage. Creating a website filled with tons of ads or lists of keywords is
not the way to go.
You need to have relevant original content on your pages. The second thing to consider is that the search engines will want to see that you have links
from other web pages. These links are kind of like votes, the more people you have voting, the better you look
in the eyes of the search engines.
The first thing you should do is focus on your website. You will need to choose specific keywords that you want
to see high ranks for. Then you need to include these words in your title, web page titles, meta tags, and meta
phrases. These are basic search engine optimization techniques.
In the text that is visible to the viewer, you need to have keywords placed within the phrasing on your pages;
you should also use the keywords in your headers. If you have pictures on the site, you will want to have keywords
placed within the photo description as well. Next you need to create a site map so the search engine can easily see
the layout of your page and quickly go from page to page.
After your site is setup correctly, you will need to have links voting for your site. Older and well established
sites will provide more weight with search engines if they are linking to you. However, you can also link to newer
sites that have relevant content as well. Some people choose to set up there own links.
This can be done through social sites or blogs. You might consider creating a profile on Myspace or Facebook or
another choice is to create your own blog. The great thing about creating your own sites to link from is that you
can add as many links as you want and as often as you want. However, do not over do it.
You can also request links from other websites online. These links will often be better or of a higher value for
your pages. You need to check each site out before you request a link. Make sure that any site you request a link
from uses the same practices you do and that they do not use unethical means. In the same way these sites can help
you, they can also drag you down.
